Mediums v Psychics

A question I am regularly asked is what is the difference between mediums and psychics? Something I have learned over the years is that all mediums are psychic to a degree, but not all psychics are mediums.

Today in Spiritualism there is so much talk about what is mediumship and what is a psychic reading that it must sound confusing to the new student. In my workshops I try to give an explanation that shows how a medium must first tune-in to the spirit and give information, which becomes evidence to the recipient of that loved-one’s life and maybe even circumstances of their death. This way we can get acceptance from the recipient that they understand the information being communicated is indeed from the mind of that deceased person whom they can vouch for. It is important in the mediums work that they get clear accurate details of the spirit person and that it is truly accepted, before they go on to give a message from the spirit to the recipient.

This shows that the medium’s information is coming from the external source that brings evidential information about them that only close relatives or friends etc would know.  Usually after this has occurred comes the spirit message, which should make sense or have relevance to your enquirer.

A psychic who reads for people will often use tools like Tarot, crystal balls, or other means of divination, but not always. There are many people who are very sensitive to other people’s feelings, emotions and even pain and such. This type of sensitivity to read another’s life is not mediumship because the information is all concerning the person they are reading and not their loved-ones in the spirit.

Of course, there are many who can do both and do. The true practitioner can move from one to the other, but will know and be able to explain to the recipient if they have to why they are picking up from both frequencies. So, in short, mediums get their information from the spirit vibration for the people sitting in front of them, while psychics and sensitives get information directly from the people sitting in front of them.
